Within the Grote and Kleine Caliebeek area lies a vast marshland, consisting of a variety of alder-fen woods, oak-birch woods, willow thickets and floating islands on dried-out peat pits. Sporadically, open places occur with wet hayfield and heath-like vegetation. The area has a specific, rich flora and high fish stock.
