Toerisme Kasterlee

Houtum tourism hub

Located in the middle of an agricultural area and next to the Kleine Nete river, the tourism hub of Houtum is the smaller version of the tourist town of Kasterlee. In Houtum you will find many pubs and restaurants where you can enjoy good food and drinks: from French fries to culinary highlights in top-class restaurants. The hamlet also boasts several great spots such as Millekesbrug, ecomuseum De Waaiberg, the fish ladder and a statue with a nice saying, explaining the origin of the name of Houtum:
Houd hem, houd hem’ riep de meulder van (den) Bruistelmolen want Rochus liep al hinkepotend richting Oost ’n e(i)nd (“Stop him, stop him, shouted the Bruistelmolen miller, because Rochus was already hobbling eastwards”)
